Meet n' Greet Continued..

ooops! I forgot to say what puzzled me about the internet.
I think it is puzzling how on the internet we read into the lack of iming as "omg he does not want to talk to me" when truth of the matter is someone may or may not be infront on their computer. With the lack of direct interaction internet conversations enable a person to misinterpret various things about the person they are talking to and draw many incorrect conclusions which seem to be veered to the more negative side of things! It's strange.

Hey, Whitney. I agree with you on the negative tendency of Internet conversations' impression formation. I have been using chatrooms and instant messengers for about ten years. When I just started using chatrooms, there were not many options in choosing status. Some website did not even have a function that would represent your current status or feeling. Mere text on the chat windows was the only tool that I was able to form an impression of the people I was talking to. I am still not sure of the reason of this tendency. However, I have detected a difference that as many features were added to Internet conversations, I tended to make less negative impression on people online. As more information was available about the people I was talking to such as their status, condition, and feeling, I tended to be more understanding. I think the amount of available information plays an important role in this negative tendency of image formation in Internet conversations.
